Each day was dominated by one outstanding set and, particularly on day two, there were some very good others.

On the first day, we arrived during Jochen Miller’s set and also caught Tritonal before we saw Andrew Rayel. I enjoyed Rayel’s set the most of these.  Although there was a fairly commercial trance feel to lots of his set – think Dash Berlin – Waiting mashed with Above & Beyond – Sun & Moon, or MaRLo – Boom, he did create an interesting and enjoyable journey through tunes like Alex M.O.R.P.H. – For The Love Of An Angel, Omnia & Ira – The Fusion, an interesting reworking of Tiësto – Just Be and his hit track with Jano – How Do I Know? Ferry Corsten joined him for some brief back-to-back DJ’ing and dropped Ferry Corsten & Markus Schulz – Loops N Tings after which Andrew Rayel played his remix of Faithless – Insomnia.  Then it was time for the act I’d really come for!

The Saturday was all about Aly & Fila vs. John O’Callaghan. I’m a massive fan of both of these DJs. Fadi, of Aly & Fila, is without doubt my favourite DJ. I’ve been fortunate enough to see him play seven times in the last 12 months, including this set – in Sydney, Miami, Ibiza and Amsterdam. His brand of uplifting trance mixes very well with that of John O’Callaghan and I was really looking forward to this set, ever since it was first announced they’d be playing back to back at Stereosonic.

Sometimes when you have very high expectations, it can lead to a slight feeling of disappointment when the reality is very good, but still below the anticipated level. This was not one of those occasions! From the word go, Fadi and John were simply brilliant. I’ve heard a lot of great sets in 2013, but this was undoubtedly the best 90 minutes of pure, uplifting trance this year.

A list of the tunes they played barely does justice to the magic they weaved and they had a packed arena absolutely buzzing for the whole of the set. We heard Veracocha – Carte Blanche (Sneijder Remix), Paul van Dyk feat. Plumb – I Don’t Deserve You (John O’Callaghan Remix), Chakra – Love Shines Through, Aly & Fila – End Of The Road, Solarstone with Aly & Fila – Fireisland, Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes, RAM – RAMelia, Aly & Fila – We Control The Sunlight, John O’Callaghan & John Askew vs Nadia Ali – Stresstest Rapture (Shura Vlasov Mashup) and John O’Callaghan – Big Sky (Signum vs. RAM Remix). And when Ferry Corsten joined them on stage for the last fifteen minutes, he dropped his classic from 2008 – Radio Crash and Fadi dropped Binary Finary – 1998.

I was utterly blown away by this amazing set. The highlight for me being when Fadi played Above & Beyond – Home … in fact, I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it as I write this.

On Sunday we saw MaRLo and Heatbeat  as well as wandering into the next door arena to listen quickly to Mat Zo and then Gareth Emery (we beat a hasty retreat on both occasions as we didn’t like what we were hearing).

The best set of the Sunday was undoubtedly Solarstone’s, although Bryan Kearney gave him a good run for his money. No one does trance quite like Solarstone does – the Pure way.  A succession of great tunes from his past as well as present: Solarstone feat. Lemon – Lovers, Lemon – We Can’t Fly (Solarstone Pure Mix), Solarstone – Solarcoaster, Solarstone – Please, Armin van Buuren feat. Emma Hewitt – Forever Is Ours (Solarstone Pure Remix), Solarstone – Seven Cities, Solarstone – Love Theme From Bladerunner (Pure Mix) and Young Parisians – Jump The Next Train. He also dropped the tune of the moment: Reorder & Ian Standerwick present Skypatrol – Folding Your Universe.

It was a wonderful set and though the room was not as full as it had been on Saturday, the crowd lapped it up and enjoyed it from start to finish.

Coming on next, Bryan Kearney dropped great tunes like Adam Ellis – Napalm Poet, Craig Connelly feat. Christina Novelli – Black Hole, Markus Schulz feat. Fiora – Deep In The Night, Paul van Dyk – For An Angel, John O’Callaghan – Find Yourself, Sneijder & Bryan Kearney – Proper Order, John O’Callaghan – Big Sky and Solarstone with Clare Stagg – Jewel. Kearney had to cope with a more sparsely filled room, as Above & Beyond were drawing many people towards the main stage, but he kept the energy level high and left everyone who stayed wanting more.

Bryan Kearney drops Paul van Dyk – For An Angel

After Bryan Kearney, Giuseppe Ottaviani wrapped up the evening in the trance arena (which metamorphosed into the hard dance arena for the last 75 minutes of the festival). I felt he took some time to get going, but the last three-quarters of an hour was pure Ottaviani brilliance. We heard his remix of Tiësto – Adagio For Strings, 4 Strings – Take Me Away, some of the songs from his new album, Magenta – Love Will Bring It All Around (feat. Eric Lumiere) and Brilliant People (with Aly & Fila) and he wrapped up with his remix of Paul van Dyk feat. Plumb – I Don’t Deserve You.

There was just time to head over to the main stage to see Armin van Buuren playing to tens of thousands of people. It was an awesome spectacle, but the music wasn’t doing it for us and we decided to head off before the rush. I discovered later that he dropped some great tunes at the end of his set, such as John O’Callaghan & John Askew vs Nadia Ali – Stresstest Rapture (Shura Vlasov Mashup) and Armin van Buuren vs. Photographer – Airport Shivers (Armin van Buuren Mashup), which would have sounded fantastic on the main stage sound system, which was as good as any I’ve ever heard at an arena of that size. But we were happy to be heading off for some well-earned rest after two days of great music and dancing.

All in all, it had been a fantastic festival – Aly & Fila vs. John O’Callaghan the undoubted highlight, but Solarstone, Bryan Kearney and Giuseppe Ottaviani all excelled too.

Legendary tune by Ishan Music

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from U.S.A based, Ishan Music. If your memory serves you correctly, which it probably doesn’t after your weekend festivities, we wrote up this artist of electronica act almost a year ago. • Have a listen, John Kah

The new Dj from Italy, a veteran called John Kah had recently been building anticipation for the lead single, thanks to some unconventional promo.

We won’t say he’s in classic mixtape form just yet, but we’d like to think his relative dormancy lately indicates that he’s bringing a new level of focus to this album.

Stream the track above, and stay tuned for more information, including its new release date.

David Guetta Nervo In My Head

    20140124-002900.jpg

Last October, Cyndi Lauper celebrated 30 years since bursting on to the scene with her debut studio album, the irrepressible pop-crammed classic She’s So Unusual, by hitting the road and performing it in front of her loyal following of fans across the world. (I posted some bits about five of my own personal favourites from the LP at the time, which you can read/listen to here).

Then earlier this week, the The Goonies ‘R Good Enough (!) singer unveiled plans to reissue the record as a deluxe two disc package on 1 April via Sony’s Legacy Recordings division, and you can preorder it here ahead of the collection’s official release on 31 March.

Disc one will feature the album’s original track list as well as a Yolanda Be Cool remix of the smash hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and two of heartbreak ballad Time After Time, one by Bent Collective and one by Australian sisters/singer-songwriters/production powerhouse Nervo. You need wait no longer to own the latter as it is already on iTunes now.

Should you be after more than just three new suped-up, dancefloor-ready numbers, there will also be that special edition second disc which includes live performances, original remixes and previously unreleased demos. Thrown in for good measure is Right Train, Wrong Track which served as the B-side to Cyndi’s smash hit Girls Just Wanna… back in 1983.

Check out the full track list for the 30th anniversary reissue, below:

Nervo have premiered the official music video for their new single online.

Not Taking This No More will be released to digital retailers on 23 September and

Knight was last in the UK singles charts in December as part of The Justice Collective who claimed the coveted Christmas number one slot with their cover of The Hollies’ He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother. Her most recent studio album – and seventh in total – was a carefully selected collection of cover versions called Soul UK which reached #13 on the UK Top 40 album chart in July 2011.

So the club-ready EDM track packed with Balearic rave beats is quite the radical departure for the singer, who has rarely strayed far from the soul foundations that she’s been building her career on, ever since breaking through in the mid-1990s.

On that note, let’s enjoy a classic throwback to Knight’s early days with her 1998 Top 40 hit Made It Back.

British soul singer Beverley Knight has teamed up with Australian producer Ivan Gough to appear on the latest single from sibling duo from Down Under, Nervo.

The Shoulda Woulda Coulda singer tweeted that she was on set in Ibiza shooting the music video for Not Taking This No More, whilst Miriam and Olivia confirmed the news in a tweet posted on their official Twitter timeline earlier today.

    20130729-231935.jpg

The 40 year old from Wolverhampton was last in the UK singles charts in December as part of The Justice Collective who claimed the ‘coveted’ Christmas number one slot with their cover of The Hollies’ He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother. Her most recent studio album – and seventh in total – was a carefully selected collection of cover versions called Soul UK which reached #13 on the UK Top 40 album chart in July 2011.

So the club-ready dance track is quite an unexpected departure for the singer, who has rarely strayed far from the soul foundations that she’s been building her career on, ever since breaking through in the mid-1990s. It’s all very rowdy with lots of heavy Balearic rave beats and beeps and Beverley of course hitting those big notes.

Check it out below and let me me know what you think.

Australian duo Nervo have debuted their new single ‘Hold On’ during a chat with US chart magazine Billboard.

The singing and songwriting twins – Mim and Liv – are long overdue a smash hit of their own, having contributed their talents to some of brilliant tracks over the past decade including David Guetta and K-Ro’s Grammy Award-winning ‘When Love Takes Over’, and singles from Pussycat Dolls, Kylie Minogue and Rachel Stevens.

That said, I doubt this is the song to give them the cut through that they need. However, as the sisters continue to ride the DJ club circuit, they’ll be building up a fan base who will want to see an album at some point soon. Afterall, it has been a couple of years since Nervo started putting some really good quality singles of their own out there (‘We’re All No-One’, ‘You’re Gonna Love Again’).

During their catch up with Billboard, Mim Nervo confirmed plans for the the release of an album later this year. Requirements are quite simply for “every song to be a four-on-the-floor, 128 [BPM] banger with an electro drop” according to Liv. Which bodes very well indeed.

‘Hold On’ was produced by Dutch DJ and producer R3hab, who has previously worked with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, J Lo and Rihanna.

NERVO TEAM UP WITH NICKY ROMERO FOR NEW DANCE TRACK ‘LIKE HOME’

They both collaborated on David Guetta’s recent reissue ‘Nothing But The Beat V2.0’, and now Dutch DJ Nicky Romero and Aussie sibling duo Nervo have teamed up to release their own track, another club floor filler called ‘Like Home’.

Regular readers will know I’m a fan of the Antipodean sisters, having previously written about their stunning singles ‘You’re Gonna Love Again’ and ‘We’re All No One’. Alas, their UK success to date has only been via their contributions to some of the greatest pop records of the last decade.

Which ones? Well they were involved in the production and songwriting for Kelly Rowland’s ‘When Love Takes Over’ and Rachel Stevens’ ‘Negotiate With Love’. They have also written for Kesha, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Pussycat Dolls, and Britney Spears, opening for the latter during her Femme Fatale tour.

In addition they co-penned a couple of tracks on Swedish pop star Agnes’ most recent album ‘Veritas’ which I insist is one of the best albums of the year.

Nicky Romero hasn’t done too badly either, having remixed Kylie’s ‘All The Lovers’, Taio Cruz’s ‘Dynamite’, Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’ and Madonna’s ‘Give Me All Your Luvin” amongst others.

    Quite some pedigree.

Anyway, this new track isn’t the greatest offering either have put their name to, but it’s certainly worth a listen.

ANOTHER SONG CO-WRITTEN BY NERVO FOR AGNES’ NEW ALBUM ‘VERITAS’ – LISTEN TO ‘GOT ME GOOD’

Swedish singer Agnes has just released her new album ‘Veritas’ in her Swedish homeland.

It includes the BRILLIANT singles ‘One Last Time’ and ‘All I Want Is You’. If you haven’t listened to either of them, correct yourself NOW. The former makes my heart crumble a little more, each time I listen to it. It also includes a song called ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ which Agnes released as a promo single last year and was co-scribed by Aussie duo Nervo.

Mim and Liv Nervo are probably the best Australian female twins since Gayle & Gillian and have released some blinding dance music before. They appear on a new David Guetta track called ‘In My Head’ that features on the forthcoming ‘Nothing But The Beat’ reboot. They’ve also had songs of their own like ‘You’re Gonna Love Again’ and ‘We’re All No One’.

Most importantly though, they co-wrote Kylie’s ‘Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)’, Rachel Stevens’ ‘Negotiate With Love’ and Kelly Rowland’s ‘When Love Takes Over’. Those all score highly on the pop front. They have also opened for Britney during her ‘Femme Fatale’ tour and worked with Ke$ha, Chezza and Scherzinger.

PUT THE TWO ACTS TOGETHER AND WHAT HAVE YOU GOT?

It’s not a pile of crap, is what I’m trying to say.

And it still hasn’t had a UK release date announced. If you’re in Sweden, feel free to send me a copy.

ANOTHER NEW DAVID GUETTA TRACK FROM ‘NOTHING BUT THE BEAT V2.0’ CALLED ‘IN MY HEAD’ FEAT. NERVO

Back to back David Guetta posts on the blog isn’t something I’m necessarily proud of, but it has to be said that these new tracks surfacing online are a vast improvement on many of those that featured on the French producer’s original ‘Nothing But The Beat’ album.

Guetta is getting ready to release a deluxe version of that record, suffixed ‘V2.0’ and yesterday I posted a link to his new collaboration with Canadian duo Tegan & Sara called ‘Every Chance We Get We Run’.

Today’s offering is the result of him teaming up with another pair of sisters, Australia’s Nervo. They’ve already made their mark on the music industry, having earned their stripes co-writing stellar tunes including K-Ro’s ‘When Love Takes Over’ and Rachel Steven’s popastic ‘Negotiate With Love’. Unfortunately their own lead credited tracks have failed to match the success of the work they’ve done for others.

‘In My Head’, like ‘Every Chance We Get We Run’, is another great showcase for the featured artist: uplifting dance with Guetta’s usually overbearing production scaled back to give Nervo’s vocals full exposure.

‘Nothing But The Beat V2.0’ is released in the UK on 10 September and available to preorder now.

We feel the Music. Do You?

Before you listen to this song, we want you to drop everything and get in your car. Head to the gas station in closest to your house, head inside, and purchase a pair of sunglasses. They should preferably be under $10, sitting on a tilted, plastic rack. After you make your thrifty, stylish purchase, head back to your computer and press play.

This is from Case Conrad, my last musical discovery.

    See you guys next update!

    Cosmic Gate

Cosmic Gate is a German hard trance duo made up of Claus Terhoeven (aka Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (DJ Bossi).

Formed in 1999, Cosmic Gate’s first single was “The Drums”, followed by “Mental Atmosphere” and their “Somewhere over the Rainbow” remix using samples from the widely popular film, “The Wizard of Oz.” However, Cosmic Gate did not become well known until their single “Firewire” was released in the UK in 2001.
